Fire-wild

The night of this photo, the wildfire smoke came in around us from the east, and everything was glowing purple.

Seeing the images of the wildfires raging in Colorado right now is terrifying. I can’t imagine what these people are going through, especially the farmers and ranchers who are just not able to get their animals out of the way.

In Utah, the Dump Fire burned less than 30 miles from the farm where I was staying. In the evening, 35-mile-per-hour winds would kick up, and we would get the smoke, sometimes so dense that we could no longer see the mountains that surrounded us. Utah Lake sat between us and the fire, so there was little danger to the farm, but this is the closest I ever need to be to a wildfire.
